Project Ideas

Abstract:

Eye diseases, age, traffic accidents, and other factors increase the number of visually impaired people each year. Visually impaired people struggle with reading because text is everywhere—newspapers, commercial products, signboards, digital screens, etc.

We designed our Android TTS OCR Converter System for visually impaired people. Our project helps visually impaired people hear printed text, text boards, scene text, hoardings, and traffic signboard instructions. The camera-based reading system extracts text from images, identifies text characters and strings, and converts text into audio.

Auto-photography is enabled. OCR will process the photo. We used Google Cloud Vision API for OCR. The system will then read the image’s text. It speaks the text.

The volume button controls the system. The system reads again if the user lowers the volume. The system takes another photo if they lower the volume twice. The system exits if the volume is increased. XML front ends this project. Java and Android Studio are used for programming.
