Abstract:

This letter proposes a three-level dc/dc converter for dc microgrid hybrid energy storage systems (HESS). One bidirectional converter integrates energy storage devices (ESDs) like batteries and ultracapacitors (UC). Due to three voltage levels, the converter can independently regulate different ESDs with reduced inductor current ripple. This converter reduces power semiconductor voltage ratings. HESS regulation uses constant switching frequency-based model predictive current control to improve performance. Discussing the converter’s design and operation. The proposed converter and control are tested.
