Abstract:

One-stage standalone solar photovoltaic (SPV) array-fed water pumping system using a permanent magnet synchronous motor is presented here.

This work’s crucial contributions are :

  • 1) the novel modified vector control, which improves torque response,
  • 2) the novel single stage variable step size incremental conductance technique, which provides fast maximum power point tracking and eliminates the need for intermediate stage dc–dc converter, and
  • 3) the SPV power feed-forward term, which accelerates system response under dynamic conditions.

A three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI), PMSM, pump, and SPV array make up this system. SPC arrays generate electricity from solar energy. The power processing unit VSI supplies PMSM currents. The motor-driven pump pumps water as the PMSM revolves.

MATLAB/Simulink with simpower system toolbox is used to model and simulate this system, and a laboratory prototype validates its performance under different climatic conditions.
