Abstract:

This study develops a multipurpose power electronic converter (PEC) for plug-in electric vehicle charging using grid and solar PV power sources. Charging, propulsion, and regenerative braking were achieved using the design.

Vehicle batteries are charged by the grid or the grid and solar PV system in stationary. RB function uses vehicle tire kinetic energy to charge the battery while running. In plug-in charging (PIC) mode, the converter is an isolated SEPIC; in solar PV charging mode, it is not.

Additionally, the suggested PEC operates as a traditional boost converter and buck converter in PP and RB modes. We offered modeling and experimental validations for all converter modes.
