Abstract:
Network technologies are evolving rapidly. The increasing volume of transmitted data (video, data, VoIP, etc.), network growth, and inter-network traffic are forcing manufacturers to create more powerful and “smart” devices that use new data transfer and sorting methods.
In Vehicle Adhoc Networks (VANET), intelligently controlled traffic for self-driving vehicles, electricity and water in smart cities, and home automation in smart homes use IoT devices. Connected IoT devices use various network structures. IoT sensors can form a mesh wireless sensor network (WSN). WSNs and WMNs are easy to organize and deploy.
These networks can be combined for many reasons. By increasing mesh topology bandwidth, reliability, and power consumption, sensor networks can improve their detailed sensory capabilities. Only a few studies integrate these two types of networks. Interconnection methods are not systematically reviewed.
This project analyzes the methods of these two networks and their relationship. WSN and WMN definitions and case studies follow. After that, we present several challenges and opportunities in the area of combined Wireless Mesh Sensor Network (WMSN) followed by a literature review on this interconnection. We hope this document will attract community attention and inspire further research in this area.
