Abstract:

Periodic beaconing is essential for neighbor tracking as vehicular communications become widespread. Vehicles periodically broadcast their kinematic data, and receivers estimate their position. Beaconing neighbors requires small position errors and transmission delay for safety.

Previous proposals used multiple RF devices on the unrealistic assumption that all vehicles have the same type to meet strict requirements. Vehicles have heterogeneous RF devices. Heterogeneous conditions make it difficult to meet requirements because network connectivity is low and multi-hop transmissions increase network congestion.

A model-based trajectory prediction and adaptive multi-hop transmissions solve this problem. Each vehicle creates and distributes its trajectory model to maintain model accuracy. Our scheme uses PSTN and PR for reliable multihop transmissions.

This beaconing-based neighbor tracking method is the first to consider heterogeneous vehicle conditions. Our method accurately tracks neighbors.
