Abstract:

EHRs store health data digitally. EHRs are shared by healthcare stakeholders, making them vulnerable to power outages, data misuse, lack of privacy, security, and audit trails. However, blockchain technology allows nodes in a list of networks to connect without a central authority. It could improve EHR management by making data exchange more secure, decentralized, and safer. Blockchain is a distributed ledger that stores and shares data securely, validated, and mutually agreed upon across all mining nodes. Data on the blockchain is secure and unchangeable. Smart contracts and machine-learning algorithms can make trustworthy decisions and analytics. Blockchain is not indestructible and has scalability and complexity issues that may make it inefficient. AI and blockchain can mitigate some of these technical ecosystems’ drawbacks. AI algorithms learn, analyze, and draw conclusions from data. Data from a reliable, secure, trustworthy, and credible platform improves AI algorithm performance. Researchers identified conceptual, prototype, and implemented blockchain-based electronic health record management solutions. This research will conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to identify and evaluate blockchain-based EHR management research articles. The study reviews blockchain and AI-enhanced health record management literature. 189 research papers were examined. The in-depth analysis examines publication privacy, security, accessibility, and scalability. The SLR showed that blockchain technology can provide decentralization, security, and privacy that traditional EHRs lack. The extensive analysis also helps future researchers choose a blockchain. Healthcare methods are summarized by application area with pros and cons. Finally, the highlighted taxonomy combines blockchain and artificial intelligence, allowing us to analyze health records management system applications. Research gaps and future directions conclude the article.
