Abstract:

This paper proposes a novel dc power electronic transformer (DCPET) topology for locomotive, ac/dc hybrid grid, dc distribution grid, and other isolated medium-voltage and high-power applications. DCPET has fewer power semiconductor devices and high-frequency isolation transformers than PET topology, improving power density and reliability. Fault handling or redundancy can improve reliability when dc-dc modules fail. Eliminating input voltage sharing control simplifies and stabilizes the control system. All switches guarantee soft switching, which boosts switching frequency and power density. This paper details the DCPET’s principle, evolution, and control. Finally, a DCPET prototype is built, and experimental results confirm the topology’s validity and superiority.
