Abstract:
Health information exchange improves outcomes and cuts medical costs. Health information exchange requires data integrity and self-determination. Blockchain and dynamic consents solve this. HealthPocket is a blockchain-based mobile platform that uses HL7 FHIR standards to exchange trustworthy health data. HealthPocket allows subjects to authorize the sharing of specific medical and PGHD data in JSON format with FHIR compatibility. A usability test showed primary and tertiary medical institutions sharing health information. 116 participants completed a questionnaire after using the HealthPocket mobile app to selectively share health information for at least one month. Medical staff could also use participants’ medical information for treatment. Patient user surveys assessed usefulness, ease of use, and service satisfaction. Health information exchange had the highest mean satisfaction (4.67 out of 5). Blockchain technology can address health information exchange issues like security, privacy, and interoperability. Blockchain-exchanged health data cannot be altered. A blockchain-based platform and dynamic consent system ensured medical data integrity.
