Abstract:
This project proposes a blockchain-based framework for a traceability system for product recall (TSPR) deployed to Ethereum to ensure transparency and visibility of the recall process for all stakeholders. The proposed system links supply chain (SC) participants, the food safety regulatory system, the admin, and end customers. The proposed TSPR system uses components to store product traceability events, recall data, and status in the blockchain for authorized stakeholders. TSPR’s entity relationship and activity diagram are created. The experiment develops three TSPR smart contracts using Remix IDE on an Ethereum test network. SC product traceability and recall events are simulated. Contracts are validated by correct operation and gas cost measurement. Three smart contracts were correct, ensuring stakeholder chain visibility and transparency for the product recall process. The regulator and manufacturer’s TSPR system gas costs in Ethereum Mainnet are $30.23 and $111.54, respectively. The Polygon Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) gas cost remains $ 0.022 and $ 0.083, respectively, so this system for stakeholders may help them lower costs and increase economic value.
