Cloud Computing Projects

Abstract:

Cloud computing deploys network services on geographically distributed cloud platforms, which increases inter-datacenter traffic. CSPs charge cloud users for inter-datacenter transmission services using multi-tier pricing.

Cloud users often choose a high service level to avoid penalties for missing deadlines. Before accessing the network, they are usually unaware of the total traffic volume, which increases transmission costs. This paper proposes an online cost-efficient transmission scheme for cloud users with information-agnostic traffic.

Split a long-term transmission request into several short-term ones. This scheme accounts for CSP countermeasures and models cloud user-CSP interactions as a Stackelberg game. An online Lyapunov optimization algorithm determines the optimal number of short-term requests and transmission service levels. Experimental results show that CSPs and cloud users can win-win by reducing cloud users’ transmission costs by 59%.
