Abstract:
Since May 2018, blockchain as a service platform has had compliance issues with the GDPR. Despite many technical solutions to blockchain-GDPR compatibility issues, problems remain. This study examines blockchain-GDPR gaps and proposes solutions. Systematic literature review of 91 articles. We then answer these research questions: 1) What GDPR-compliant blockchain solutions have been explored? 2) Blockchain compliance research gaps? Finally, five research gaps in this field: 1) developing a consent ontology model; 2) developing a methodology for monitoring fairness in the blockchain; 3) resolving the contradiction between auditing and obfuscation; 4) tracking controllers in the blockchain; and 5) integrating different-purposed technical solutions without conflicts. Our research can improve blockchain-GDPR compatibility and help blockchain-adopting companies comply. It can also advise the regulator to incorporate new technologies into the GDPR while protecting blockchains.
