Abstract:
A census collects and records population data. It is a regular, official population count. National population, housing, agriculture, business, and traffic censuses are the most common usage of the phrase.
Population and housing censuses must include “individual enumeration, universality within a defined territory, simultaneity and defined periodicity” and should be done every 10 years, according to the UN.
The UN also recommends census themes, official definitions, classifications, and other information to coordinate worldwide practice.
