Abstract:

MDC is an efficient source coding method for error-prone transmission over multiple channels. This paper introduces a polyphase down-sampling-based MDC (NPDS-MDC) for image signals.

Three steps encode our proposed NPDS-MDC. First, we apply quincunx down-sampling to each N_N image block. Second, we use a new transform on down-sampled pixels to create side descriptions.

Third, an error compensation algorithm reduces compression distortion on down-sampled pixels. Our scheme decodes the down-sampled compressed pixels after image interpolation.

Interlacing side descriptions also decodes centrally. We also propose a compression-constrained central deblocking algorithm to boost central decoding efficiency. Our MDC scheme outperforms state-of-the-art methods for various image types, especially at high bit rates.
