Abstract:

Edge caching has been studied for vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) to improve infotainment application efficiency and reliability. We propose a two-layer distributed content caching scheme for VANETs using vehicle and roadside unit (RSU) caches.

We solve the content caching problem to minimize transmission delay and cost as a nonlinear integer programming (NLIP) problem using an alternate dynamic programming search (ADPS) algorithm. ADPS solves each subproblem separately using dynamic programming (DP).

To simplify the large-scale original problem, we propose a cooperation-based greedy (CBG) algorithm. The proposed caching scheme outperforms existing caching schemes in transmission delay, cost, and hit ratio, compared to the popularity-based caching scheme.
