Abstract:

Intelligent Transport Systems research now includes Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET). Urban vehicles constantly move at different speeds, changing the network topology. Routing protocols’ performance when sending data between vehicles is the main issue in urban environments.

ECRDP, an Efficient Clustering Routing method, uses a new clustering algorithm based on Density Peaks Clustering (DPC) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). First, the PSO algorithm determines cluster heads or the DPC algorithm creates a new fitness function for the best solutions.

Next, vehicles are clustered by link reliability. A maintenance phase is suggested to update cluster heads and reorganize vehicles.

Finally, MATLAB simulates a real urban scenario to evaluate the proposed scheme. The results show a 74% decrease in change rate, a 34% increase in intra-cluster throughput, a 47% increase in inter-cluster throughput, and a 16% decrease in average delay.
