Abstract:

Vehicle platoon, a new driving paradigm that organizes a group of vehicles nose-to-tail, could reduce traffic and improve travel comfort. User vehicles evaluate head vehicles in such a platoon system. Selecting a reliable head vehicle without disclosing user vehicle privacy is an intriguing problem.

TPPR, a trust-based and privacy-preserving platoon recommendation scheme, helps potential user vehicles avoid malicious head vehicles. TPPR calculates the head vehicle’s reputation score by truth discovery from each user vehicle’s trust value.

Pseudonyms and Paillier cryptosystem protect vehicle privacy. Novel authentication protocols ensure that only valid vehicles—those with truthful trust values and joining the vehicle platoon—can pass the authentication. The proposed TPPR scheme is secure against several sophisticated vehicular ad hoc network attacks after a thorough security analysis. To prove the scheme works, extensive simulations are done.
