Cloud Computing Projects

Abstract:

Resource-constrained mobile devices can benefit from mobile edge computing offloading. Computation offloading improves performance, but edge servers have capacity limits. This article considers a three-tier computation offloading schema with multiple users, edge servers, and cloud servers.

Mobile devices can offload computation to edge servers or remote cloud servers. Since multiple mobile devices connected to edge servers share a wireless communication network with uplink and downlink channels, bandwidth assignment constrains computation offloading performance.

This paper studies the offloading strategy and bandwidth assignment problems as a programming problem to minimize application response time. We solve the joint problem as a piecewise convex programming problem. An efficient algorithm finds the best solution. Our algorithm outperforms others in extensive experiments. The experimental results demonstrate our algorithm’s robustness.
