Abstract:

Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) is a novel and emerging decentralized digital identity approach that allows entities to control and manage their digital identifiers and identity data while improving trust, privacy, security, and many other properties identified and analyzed in this paper. The paper provides an overview and classification of SSI properties, focusing on an in-depth analysis, and presents a comprehensive collection of SSI properties necessary for SSI system implementation. It also examines the general SSI process flow and highlights steps where properties matter. After purifying and classifying SSI properties, we validated them using an online questionnaire among Decentralized and Self-Sovereign Identity Management experts. The findings can help define and standardize SSI.
